Chemical Peels

Chemical peels can be used to minimize the appearance of facial wrinkles caused by sun damage, smoking, and natural aging. Chemical peels also improve skin quality, making skin smoother and reducing age spots.

What is a chemical peel?

Chemical peels are specifically designed skincare formulations that “peel” the uppermost layers of the skin, revealing softer and smoother skin underneath. The uppermost layers of the skin carry most of the signs of aging, sun damage, pigmentation problems, and textural irregularities.

How do chemical peels work?

Chemical peels create a chemical burn on superficial layers of the skin; the burn forces deeper layers to heal and create new skin. The new skin formed during the healing process is often tighter, with fewer wrinkles. Furthermore, chemical peels encourage collagen production. Collagen is a fibrous protein that makes your skin look firm, smooth, and voluminous. The gradual loss of collagen due to age is responsible for skin laxity and wrinkles. Deep surgical peels can only be administered by a physician. Dr Vial specializes in deep peels.

How are chemical peels administered?

The chemical peel process starts with a consultation with Dr. Vial. Dr. Vial carefully examines your facial skin, discusses your goals and expectations, and reviews your medical history. Based on your specific goals and condition, Dr. Vial will design the ideal chemical peel treatment plan.

Your face will be cleansed carefully to remove residue, oil, and debris. Dr. Vial will apply the chosen chemical peel in layers on your face. Each layer will be allowed to sit on your face for a period before proceeding with the next layer.

What is the recovery process after chemical peels?

Surgical peels involve downtime. You will have to be out of the public eye for two weeks at which point you can start wearing make up. You can expect significant skin slough over the first two weeks. You’ll be asked to avoid direct sunlight for one year. Your skin will be reddened for 6-12 months following the procedure.

What are the risks of chemical peel?
